The City of Eagle is currently in the design phase of a new park complex.  The Eagle Regional Sports Complex will be located off Highway 16 just east of River Birch Golf Course.  The proposed design plan only identifies four dedicated Pickleball courts and two tennis courts.  As a member of BAPA or a follower of the BAPA Facebook group page you are likely aware how quickly the sport is growing.

Ed Sloan, a long-time resident of Eagle, has attended a few meetings and approached BAPA to garner a means of support for the project.  We are asking Pickleball players around the Treasure Valley to submit letters of support to the City of Eagle to express the need for more courts in this project.  Now is the time since the city is in the design phase.  Construction is set to begin late spring or early summer and will take approximately 2-3 to complete.

Below is a form letter for your convenience.  Please modify the letter to include your name and address and sign at the bottom.  You may also write your own personal letter of support.  Please submit to the city at clerks@cityofeagle.org no later than March 10, 2023.

Community members are also urged to attend Coffee with the Mayor meetings every other Wednesday from 9-10 AM to express your support for more courts.  There may come a time where we will reach out for players to attend a city council meeting to show support.  We will notify you when and if that time comes.

Thank you for supporting Pickleball in the Treasure Valley!

The prestigious award was presented to BAPA member Dick Johnson by the CEO of the Games at a special dinner ceremony at the Hilton Convention Hotel in St. George, Utah. Three other player were also inducted: Alice Tym and Yvonne & Jim Hackenberg.

Dick said one of the most enjoyable things at the Huntsman Games this year was not only winning the needed gold medal to continue his Grand Slam pursuit but also winning it in men's doubles with his long time Boise High buddy and fellow BAPA member, Tim Gleason.

Thank you to all who attended the BAPA Holiday Pickleball Party at Treasure Valley Athletic Center on December 9. Almost 90 players enjoyed the food, hot cocoa, and comradery of fellow pickleball addicts.

And, of course, there was lots and lots of pickling! 9 courts dedicated for pickleball - so practically no waiting.  What fun!

Dee Brittan made and donated Christmas-themed and pickling-themed door prizes too.  Oh to have been one of the lucky winners!

A special thanks to TVAC for offering us a discounted rate to hold the event - and to Kathy Getto for organizing it.

BAPA held an unusual pickleball tournament in early September. It was designed to encourage players from different age groups to partner-up. In fact, teams with the biggest spread in age had a distinct advantage in winning the tournament.

Eight teams had great fun and competition playing each other during the Round Robin portion. Ray Wolverton and Janessa Pope won all their games and earned 77 points, BUT their score was reduced by their age gap of a mere 37 years and thus finished the Round Robin in 2nd place. Finishing 1st in the Round Robin, with an age differential of 50 years, were Darwin Pugmire and his granddaughter Randi Wilson. Also making the playoffs were Jonathan Carroll and Ethan Carroll (33 year difference) and Rodger Shaver & Levi Iverson (a whopping 57 year difference in age).

Our top four teams then played a single-elimination bracket with a consolation game for 3rd place. They had 15 points to see if their skills were good enough beat the ‘dreaded spread’ of their opponents’ age gap.

Congratulations to Ray and Janessa who beat the 50-year spread of Darwin and Randi in the Gold medal match. In the Bronze medal match, Jonathon and Ethan won the game 15-9. But Rodger and Levi’s age differential of 57 years gave them the edge, and they won the Bronze medal with an adjusted game score of 4.95-5.13

Thanks to all of our teams for making the day so fun. And thanks to Nancy Christensen for tallying the scores and helping with the tournament.

Have you heard the new pickleball song?

Dinks in the Kitchen, sung to the tune and message of Cats in the Cradle by Harry Chapin,  is a pickleball parody by Thomas Iradi telling the lifecycle of the pickleball player.

It's well worth the listen... Click on the image or the name of the song to open the video.
